House Hunters Sydney – The Decision

And the winner is….Number Three – The New Trackside Tower

This unit won us over with its brand new interior, tile floors, open kitchen, and sizable balcony. The unit also comes with a storage room (about 8×10) that provides a staging area as we figure out what furniture to sell, and keeps the bikes out of the apartment. Furthermore, there was some flexibility in the price so our final rent is $710 per week.

We moved in on December 23rd, and are currently living with rental furniture, until our sea freight arrives (hopefully, just a couple weeks). We had an eventful first few days with a leaking air con unit and a blocked laundry drain; both caused mini floods. Thankfully, John heard the air con dripping before it soaked our electronics, and with tile floors throughout, clean-up was not too bad.

In terms of livability, it has been a bit of an adjustment from our temporary accommodations, where we were across the street from a six story mall with three grocery stores and everything from doctors to dollar stores. However, I enjoy becoming acquainted with the various little shops, and exploring the neighborhood. There is a two block stretch of road with a fruit and vegetable stand, a butcher, bakery, and traditional grocery store nearby. I put Cecilia in the Björn (thanks Matt & Abby), and walk over to pick up whatever we need for the days meals. Then, it’s a nice bicep workout carrying it all home. I found it is actually considerably cheaper to shop the small stands/shops rather than the traditional grocery store, although the selections are limited to whats in season. I am interested to see what will be available throughout the year, since summer produce is so plentiful now.

JZ is excited we are in biking distance from most places, but after a short trip around the neighborhood, decided to wait until he is more familiar with the road rules.  Turns out biking on the left is at least as challenging as driving, but more on that later.  As for now, I think he is happy to watch the planes land and take off at the airport while he does the dishes, and I am happy when he does the dishes. We will put up a proper tour of the apartment in photos once we everything is settled with our sea freight.
